The city of Lavista hills, the latest in the ongoing devolution of Dekalb county into partitions is going up for a vote on November 3. While the county government isn't exactly known for its incorruptibility and efficiency, it's really hard to see how further partition could help (other than to maybe lower the minimum bribe level.)
What is surprising is the level of well-organized, typical rethuglican scare tactics being used to get out the vote. We get daily phone calls about the terrible things that will happen if we vote no. (This was after a 'survey' where we said "hes we'll vote" and "we'll vote against it") Someone stands to make a lot of money on the devolution. No one is asking "who?" or "why?"
There's obviously a racial component here (the county is majority black, the proposed city majority white), but that can't explain everything.
