While I’ve been filming the birds at my Huntsville feeder, I’ve also been watching the squirrels. One of the biggest and baddest of the lot is a male with a torn ear. This boar seems to be the dominant male, and I’ve watched him chase other males away from the feeder. His male-ness was rather obvious on a series of still images — though none of the ones in the video below.
Anyway, while I was taking pictures of him, he displayed scent marking behavior. I didn’t know they did this, but since many other mammals do it; I should not be surprised.
I’ve assembled a series of stills into a short video, with my narration (which I’d turn off if I were you — I don’t sound anything like David Attenborough), that shows this activity. The cover picture is one of the females.
